Compost treated with EM-1® produces rich amino acids and polysaccharides. These compounds are directly absorbed by plants. Under normal composting circumstances, cellulose is decomposed and broken down to form carbon dioxide. However, with the microorganisms in EM-1®, polysaccharides are produced and absorbed by the microorganisms.
Traditional composting requires temperatures to reach 140 to 160 degrees F with lots of aeration required. On average the piles are turned 17 to 18 times over the course of 35-40 days and then piles sit for an additional 90 to 120 days. Using EM-1® in the process matures the compost without the additional 90 to 120 days and plants can be planted the same day it is spread.
Compost, by definition is the aerobic breakdown of organic matter. During this process, turning, generally while adding water, adds water and air to the material. Adding EM-1® to the pile helps increase the air flow into the pile and increasing the aerobic microbial populations. This means more air with less turning.

Adding EM-1® is easy, simply add to your water used to add moisture to your pile.
Add water to reach desired moisture content and follow standard composting procedures with turning and temperature monitoring.
